Lough Derg is one of Ireland’s largest inland lakes. It is surrounded by mountains and has a shoreline of surprising complexity with bays large and small, and a series of small islands. Check out some fantastic small villages such as GarryKennedy on your trip where you will be rewarded for your effort by some great little pubs and scenery.
Lough Derg is one of three major lakes on the River Shannon – Ireland's longest river. The route follows the river from its mouth in historic Limerick, past the hydroelectric power station upstream at Ardnacrusha. Then after the twin towns of Killaloe/Ballina, the walker is taken on a glorious walk of spectacular views along the eastern shores of the lake, with many interesting places to take time out - a great way to enjoy an activity packed break in Tipperary.
